81년 뉴욕 센트럴 파크에서 있었던 라이브 공연 이후
20여년이 흘렀습니다.
이제 환갑을 넘긴 할아버지가 된 사이먼과 가펑클은
2003년 팝 역사상 가장 뛰어난 듀오의 재결성을 알리는
라이브 공연을 이제는 무대 위에서 합니다.

이곡 오랜 친구들.. 그들의 재결성을 알리는 첫 고함입니다.
아주 오래된 친구들이 다시 무대에 등장하는 순간이지요.

이제 나이들어
오리지널 키로 노래하지 못하고
곡의 속도도 현저히 떨어져 있지만
세월의 무게를 가락으로 엮어내는
저들의 화음은 여전히 이 시대의 음악들을
무색케 하기에 충분합니다.

제 마음에 오래도록 새겨있는 그들의 음악..
그리고 다시 합한 이 두 노인
사이먼과 가펑클을 소유한 이 세대 역시
행운의 세대입니다.

혹시 아시나요?
이들이 최초로 듀오를 결성한 것은
1957년이지요.
그때 사용한 이름은 TV만화영화의 주인공인
"톰과 제리"였지요.
그리고 그들 커리어 최초 히트곡인 "Hey Schoolgirl"이 등장합니다.
이 곡 역시 2003년도 공연에서 부르고 있습니다.

특별히 이번 공연에서는 그들과 같은 시기에
포크 듀오를 이루었던 형제 그룹 The Everly Brothers도 함께
나와 그들의 히트곡을 함께 부릅니다.

폴과 아더의 나이는 1941년생 동갑입니다.
우리 나이로는 68세.. 곧 칠순이네요..

할아버지가 된 내 어린 시절의 우상들..
그래도 마냥 이들의 음악을 여전히 접할 수 있다는 것이
행복합니다...
